I have developed a system to geocode the photographs in BBC Digital Picture Of Britain.

My aim here is to unlock the potential of this new collection of photographs.

My system produces world coordinates for the photographs using names mentioned in their text entry.

It has geolocated over sixteen thousand photos from the collection. The demos (above) show these photos plotted as shaded points on a map. You can click the map to see photos of that area.

I would like to see this in use on the Picture Of Britain website.
